3 Reasons to Invest in Welding Glasses

If you’re regularly working with welding devices, it’s a no brainer that you’re going to need something to protect your eyes.

Welding torches give off tons of harmful light, heat, and sparks, so there’s a good chance of going blind if you look at them without any kind of barrier. While the most common solution to this problem is a welding mask, there are the somewhat lesser known welding glasses you might want to consider. What’s the difference and why should you switch? Here are three reasons to invest in welding glasses to explain it.

1. More Comfort

While welding glasses might not provide the full face protection that a welding mask does, it is a much more comfortable experience in terms of wearing them. This is mostly the case for people who already wear glasses of some persuasion that makes it difficult to fit a welding helmet on your face. Obviously, you’ll need to take some extra precautions to avoid spraying yourself with sparks, but the greater freedom of movement and the ability to actually see what you’re welding with clarity is a definite plus.

2. Better Field of Vision

Instead of a bulky helmet with a small slit for vision, welding glasses give you a greater and less obstructed field of view to use while you work. When you’re messing around with potentially dangerous tools, this can definitely be a major asset.

3. Everyday Use

Welding glasses are, after all, still glasses. While you probably don’t want to make them a standard part of your wardrobe given the large amount of lens tint, it is much easier to go about your day wearing them than it would be a welding helmet. If you’re moving about a workshop or even taking a break, you can keep your glasses on without diminishing your vision or obstructing your face. They also make pretty good sunglasses.
